Our Evolutionary Journey: From Tissue Culture to USFDA Clearance

Our story began in 2006 under the name Orchid Life, founded by university friends Abdul Razak Mohd Isa and Mustadza Muhamad. United by a passion for horticulture and botany, the company initially focused on tissue culture technology for orchids. However, recognizing the vast, untapped potential of Malaysia’s biodiversity, the founders steered the company toward a more ambitious horizon: biopharmaceuticals. A pivotal moment arrived in 2015 when the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) appointed us as an Anchor Company to lead research on Labisia pumila (Kacip Fatimah) as an anti-obesity botanical drug.

This transition marked the beginning of a series of historic milestones. We successfully bridged the gap between academic research and commercial reality, culminating in a breakthrough in 2020. Medika Natura became the first Malaysian company to receive clearance from the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for a botanical ingredient as a New Dietary Ingredient (NDIN). Today, with BioNexus status and a history of collaboration with top research institutions, we have evolved from a local tissue culture lab into a global player capable of navigating the complex regulatory landscapes of the FDA, EFSA, and NPRA.

Our Innovations: Products & Proprietary Technology

At the core of our product offerings is our proprietary technology, PhytoProfile™. This platform is applied at every stage of the manufacturing process to ensure that our bio-active compounds meet strict pharmaceutical standards for consistency and quality. This technology powers our flagship innovations in the nutraceutical and cosmeceutical spaces.

Our primary market offerings include:

1. SKF7™ (Active Ingredient): The first Malaysian-made botanical extract to receive USFDA NDIN clearance. Derived from Labisia pumila, this standardized bio-active compound has undergone extensive pre-clinical and randomized human clinical trials across Malaysia, Indonesia, and India. It is proven to assist in normalizing blood glucose, reducing cholesterol, and inhibiting visceral fat accumulation.

2. Labeesity® (Finished Product): A clinically tested dietary supplement designed to tackle obesity and metabolic syndrome. Utilizing SKF7™ as its active ingredient, Labeesity® is approved as a Traditional Medicine by the NPRA and is currently registered in multiple international markets including Singapore and Indonesia.

3. Future Pipeline: We are actively developing solutions for diabetes, cancer, and potentially Covid-19 therapeutic interventions, leveraging our deep expertise in botanical drugs to create a robust pipeline of high-impact health solutions.
